Senior General Accountant
Role summary
The role is a full function bookkeeping and management accounting position, working within our client’s cloud based accounting and reporting systems across their organisation and and there two subsidiaries.
Tax
- Preparing the Business Activity Statement for review, including GST reconciliation.
- Preparing the annual FBT return.
- Preparing monthly Instalment Activity Statements and Business Activity Statements.
- Preparing monthly Payroll Tax returns and annual WorkCover reconciliations.
- Assisting with other periodic lodgements as required.
Accounts payable and receivable
- Processing supplier invoices and entering these into Xero, with correct coding to accounts, projects and cost centres.
- Managing the accounts payable approval workflow through ApprovalMax, ensuring all invoices are routed for the appropriate authorisation before payment.
- Setting up payments in the bank ready for authorisation and release. This is limited to setting up payments only and does not include approving or releasing payments.
- Raising customer invoices, monitoring receivables and following up outstanding amounts.
Bank and general ledger
- Completing regular bank reconciliations across all accounts.
- Maintaining the general ledger.
- Reconciling key balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
Payroll and compliance
- Processing payroll, including calculation of wages, allowances and deductions.
- Managing superannuation obligations and associated lodgements.
- Maintaining employee records and ensuring compliance with relevant payroll obligations.
Monthly journals and close
- Preparing monthly journals, including accruals, prepayments, depreciation and amortisation.
- Allocating costs across our various projects, including allocation of costs to our IP and development projects, in a manner that supports our capitalisation and reporting requirements.
- Assisting with the month end close process to agreed timeframes.
Management and statutory reporting support
- Preparing monthly management reporting, including profit and loss, balance sheet and project level reporting.
- Providing supporting reconciliations and workpapers to a standard suitable for review.
Audit support
- Assisting with the audit of 1414 Degrees, including providing information and supporting documentation and responding to auditor queries. This is a support role only. The audit process is led by our external accountants, who prepare the financial statements and manage the audit, together with our in house Corporate Finance and Strategy Lead.
Systems and controls
- Working within our cloud based accounting and reporting systems, including ApprovalMax for approval workflows.
- Using Microsoft 365 to access and work within our shared drive files, and documenting all work and supporting records in the relevant locations.
- Maintaining accurate and well organised records to support internal review, external audit and our internal control framework.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in full-function accounting or a similar senior accounting role.
- Strong experience in Xero, AP/AR, bank reconciliations, payroll, and general ledger.
- Solid knowledge of GST, BAS, FBT, Payroll Tax, and other Australian compliance requirements.
- Experience preparing monthly journals, management reports, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Strong Excel/Microsoft 365 skills; experience with ApprovalMax is an advantage.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience supporting audits and month-end close.
- Strong understanding of Australian accounting practices and regulations.
