Job Description
Goal: Reduce owner’s operational load by 80% on estimating. Improve quote turnaround and cost tracking during construction to measure estimating and job profitability.
Primary Responsibilities
• Estimating & Takeoffs
o Review project plans, documents, sketches and gather understanding of project.
o Generate a new estimation file in Wunderbuild.
o Upload plans to the estimation file.
o Scale all plans required for takeoff.
o Import takeoff template and quantify all required items for the effective cost of the job.
o Report back with any queries or questions throughout the takeoff process to ensure we gather all required information.
o Open costing template and build out quote.
o Send quote request as required to gather supplier quotes to ensure estimates reflect buy costs for fluctuating costs. IE subcontractors, plantstock, stone and tile supplies.
o Generate draft ready for director review.
o Arrange zoom meeting to review costs
o Make final changes.
o Generate scope of documents in Canva in proposal files.
o Complete checklist to ensure all items are covered.
o Support director with follow up information and repricing as required to win the contract.
o Review job profit analysis with the Director prior to estimation approval.
o Use historical data to improve estimated accuracy over time.
o Manage estimation documentation in Wunderbuild folders and ensure all are tidy and clean.
• Pricing Management
o Maintain price lists and update or improve. Including standard materials, subcontractor rates and internal charge out rates.
o Cross check vendor pricing monthly and update unit’s pricelist in Wunderbuild.
o Flag any cost blowouts or inconsistencies in past estimates for Matt to review.
• Cost Tracking
o Review live job costs and reconcile to estimation to track job profit live.
o Report back when sections of projects are completed and review actual vs estimate
o and use this information to strengthen future estimates.
o Review final job profit analysis with the Director and make changes as required.
• Job Handover/Management
o Generate job summary sheets for wunderbuild estimate information to develop
o detailed job scope for onsite staff to identify scope creep.
o Ensure all job documentation is available to staff members within the job folders.
o Review job communication files to track job progress and learn about how they operates.
o Price variation request for onsite team promptly to allow client decision.
• Process Improvement
o Recommend process improvements to reduce estimating time while improving margin tracking.
o Assist in building estimating checklists, BOQs and SOPs for repeatable works. IE Pools, landscape, retaining walls ect.
Key Tools Used
• Wunderbuild (mandatory)
• Xero, Google Sheets
• Gmail Email (internal comms) outside of Wunderbuild.
• Google Drive (file management)
• Required Skills & Attributes
• 2+ years’ experience in construction estimating (Earthworks,landscaping,pools,ideal)
• Confident using quoting software – Wunderbuild preferred, or similar (Buildxact, CoConstruct, etc.)
• Highly detail-oriented and proactive communicator, you will be provided with a communication window within Wunderbuild allows fast access to the Director.
• Able to work autonomously but open to feedback and training to allow continual improvement of the process.
• Familiarity with Australian construction terms and pricing norms
