Estimator
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Estimating & Takeoffs
- Review project plans, documents, and sketches to understand project scope
- Generate a new estimation file in Wunderbuild
- Initiate a direct project chat in Wunderbuild (attachments and videos supported)
- Upload project plans into the estimation file
- Accurately scale all required plans
- Import takeoff template and quantify all required items
- Communicate any queries during takeoff to ensure complete and accurate information
- Open costing template and develop the job quote
- Request supplier quotes for fluctuating cost items (e.g., subcontractors, stone, tiles)
- Draft estimate for the director’s review
- Schedule Zoom meeting with the director to review costing
- Finalize estimate with required revisions
- Generate Scope of Works in Canva and store in proposal files
- Complete final checklist to ensure estimate completeness
- Support the Director with re-pricing and follow-ups as needed to win contracts
- Review job profit analysis with the director prior to final estimate approval
- Use historical data to improve estimate accuracy over time
- Ensure margin and markup structure meet the client’s financial targets
- Organize and maintain all estimation files and documentation in Wunderbuild
2. Pricing Management
- Maintain and update price lists including materials, subcontractor rates, and internal charge-out rates
- Cross-check vendor pricing monthly and update Wunderbuild unit price list
- Identify and flag cost blowouts or inconsistencies in previous estimates
3. Cost Tracking
- Monitor live job costs and reconcile against estimates
- Conduct actual vs. estimate comparisons upon section completions; use insights to refine future estimates
- Review and adjust final job profit analysis with the director.
4. Job Handover & Management
- Create job summary sheets from Wunderbuild estimate data for on-site teams
- Ensure all job documents are accessible in the correct folders
- Review job communication to monitor project progress and operational methods
- Promptly process variation pricing requests to support client decision-making
5. Process Improvement
- Recommend improvements to reduce estimating time and enhance margin tracking
- Contribute to development of estimating checklists, BOQs, and SOPs for repeatable work types (e.g., pools, landscaping, retaining walls)
6. Any ad hoc tasks that may be assigned from time to time.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred)
- 3+ years’ experience in construction estimating / quantity surveying
- Experience in residential or commercial construction projects
- Proven experience preparing detailed BOQs, takeoffs, and cost estimates
