Job Description:
Ensures the following deliverables:
• Deliver all jobs within estimated price
• Achieve budgeted gross profitability
• Seeking out A-class clients to work with and keeping sales pipeline full
Accountability and Responsibility:
The Estimator is accountable and responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
1. Core Behavioural Values
• At all times, behavior and decision-making is to be based on Client’s ‘Core Values.’
2. Job Management
• Ensure jobs are hitting estimated targets, and if not, resolve it (labor, material, etc.).
• Track all jobs (weekly report submitted to Management of actual vs. budget for all projects)
• Job scheduling—labor, material & equipment requirements, time extensions, forecast project completion dates, potential risks
• Update sales pipeline
• Follow up quotes (if they are won or lost)
• Compile all documentation from the beginning and throughout a job (not at the end)—ready for operations manual on job completion/handover
• Be punctual and focused, and bring your ‘A Game.’
• Use time effectively (e.g. email and cc others in rather than call)
3. Job Takeoffs
• Compile takeoffs, including for bulk excavations
4. Job Quoting & Performance
• Ensure all jobs are completed on time as per project schedule—multiple jobs running concurrently
• Ensure best price for materials on all jobs won—shop around to reduce COS
• Ensure all materials are pre-priced and we are ordering from the pre-priced list
• Create a Job profit tracker
• Timely & professional communication with all relevant stakeholders
5. Job Management System
• Ensure all job information is entered into the system
• Ensure all staff are adequately trained in how to operate the job management system
6. New Business
• Identify and develop new customer and market opportunities—in consultation with the Managing Director
• Provide Managing Director with the appropriate information as required to adjust strategy and
operations in response to market conditions to maintain sustainable growth
7. Business development
• Create training videos/workflows to document & improve company processes
• Any adhoc tasks that may be assign from time to time.
Requirements
• Proven experience in construction estimating and cost control.
• Strong skills in project scheduling, quoting, and material sourcing.
• Ability to manage multiple jobs and meet profitability targets.
• Proficient in using job management systems and reporting tools.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong attention to detail and time management.
