Finance Manager
The opportunity
Our bookkeeping and BAS are already handled, and our year end and tax sit with our external accountants. The layer in between is the one that is missing. Nobody currently owns the day-to-day financial running of the business, which means issues tend to surface later than they should and land on the desk of the CEO.
This role exists to close that gap. We are looking for a commercially minded Finance Manager to take ownership of our numbers, turn data into decisions and give clear early warnings long before a problem becomes expensive. You will sit above the bookkeeping and BAS function, work alongside our commercial and operations lead and report directly to the Founder and CEO as a trusted finance partner.
Key responsibilities
Management reporting and month end
• Own the monthly close and produce timely, accurate management accounts covering profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow across all three territories.
• Consolidate multi-currency results in AUD, GBP and USD and reconcile intercompany positions between entities.
• Present results to the CEO each month with plain English commentary on what the numbers mean and what action they call for.
Planning, budgeting and target setting
• Build and own the annual budget with the CEO and set revenue, margin and spend targets by channel and by territory.
• Track actual performance against budget and target every month and explain the variances clearly.
• Model scenarios for major decisions such as product launches, manufacturing commitments and retail expansion, using only confirmed figures and flagging any missing inputs.
Cash flow and working capital
• Maintain a rolling cash flow forecast and manage the timing of supplier payments against incoming revenue.
• Manage working capital across inventory, receivables and payables, including active management of aged debtors.
• Give the CEO early visibility of any cash pressure well before it arrives.
Commercial and media performance
• Apply financial discipline to media investment across television and digital, tracking return on ad spending, customer acquisition cost and payback period.
• Hold media and marketing partners accountable to the numbers they commit to.
• Analyse channel and product profitability and flag underperformance or demand softening early.
Data, systems and controls
• Own the integrity of financial and operational data across Cin7, Xero, Shopify and connected systems.
• Ensuring data flowing between systems is reconciled and trustworthy so reporting can be relied on.
• Maintain sensible internal controls so money cannot leave the business without proper
authorisation.
Team and stakeholders
• Manage, support and develop the Inventory Data Administrator.
• Oversee and quality check the work of the external bookkeeper and ensure clean numbers are ready for BAS preparation.
• Act as the main point of contact for our external accountants.
What success looks like in the first six months
• Accurate management accounts reach the CEO early each month, every month, without chasing.
• A rolling cash flow forecast is in place and genuinely trusted.
• Media and channel spend is reported against clear return metrics.
• Problems are being flagged early and proactively, rather than discovered too late.
